Remembering Professor Bill Simpson

Professor Bill Simpson was the heart and mind behind Professor Bill's LadderLab and the original vision for The Learning Pit Inc.

Bill passed away last year, and we miss him deeply.

He was a master electrician, a master plumber, and for many years an electrical and PLC professor at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. More than anything, Bill cared about helping students understand the real-world skills they would need in the trades and in industry.

He started The Learning Pit with a simple but powerful idea: make PLC learning more accessible, more practical, and more engaging for students. LadderLab continues that work.

The software exists because of Bill's knowledge, creativity, and lifelong commitment to teaching. As we move forward, we are doing our best to carry on his ideas and keep his work helping students for years to come.

LogixPro is Becoming Professor Bill's LadderLab – FAQ

Why is the name changing?

The software originally known as LogixPro was created by Professor Bill Simpson, a Master Plumber, Master Electrician, and college professor in Oshawa, Ontario. To better reflect his legacy and ensure the name is uniquely ours, we are renaming the simulator to Professor Bill's LadderLab.

What does this mean for current users?

All existing LogixPro licenses and key cards will continue to work. You don't need to purchase new keys or reinstall your software immediately. The name change is part of a branding update, not a change to your license.

Will the simulator itself change?

In the near future, we'll be releasing an updated version under the new name. Our goal is to keep the simulator true to Professor Bill's original vision while adding refinements and improvements where possible.

Do I need to do anything right now?

No. You can continue using your current version of LogixPro without interruption. When the updated release of Professor Bill's LadderLab is available, we'll provide clear instructions for upgrading.
